Royan
Royan was very popular with artists in the 1920s but all that attracted them was destroyed by bombing in 1945. This left a blank canvas for the modernists of the 1950s who refashioned the town, and made it into a must see during the 60s. Forgotten for some time, it is now enjoying renewed interest. We loved the Central Market, a giant shell fashioned from concrete housing fabulous food stands. The church of Notre Dame Royan can be seen from most of Royan and was designed by Guillaume Gilet and Marc Hebrard. Royan is also a place where the beach can be enjoyed, particularly during July when concerts are held on the beach. https://www.violonsurlesable.com/
